Facial Plastic Surgery
As our society increases its emphasis on youth and appearance, it is
no surprise that each year millions of people have some type of cosmetic
surgery performed. Men and women in South Mississippi are increasingly
turning to cosmetic surgery as they realize that you do not have to be a
movie star or millionaire to improve your appearance. Cosmetic surgery
is not for everyone, however, and it is important to understand what it
can and cannot do for the individual. Youth and beauty are spiritual
qualities that result from an attitude about yourself and about life
that have little to do with your age. Every person has some natural
beauty, both in the physical and in the spiritual sense, which can
usually be improved upon. Tools to accomplish this vary from religion,
attitudes and relationships to good health, grooming, makeup, and, of
course, cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is best suited for
individuals in whom an improvement in outward appearance also results in
an improved feeling about themselves and the world they live in.
While perfection is an unrealistic expectation, a good surgeon will get
consistently good, near perfect results and occasional perfect results.
Although fortunately uncommon, there are always risks of cosmetic
surgery as with any surgery, which vary with the operation and the
individual. Some of the more common cosmetic procedures are described
briefly below. These can usually be done in the office or as an
outpatient at the hospital under local anesthesia, resulting in
increased safety and savings to the patient.
Included below is a list of some of the more common procedures we
offer along with a brief discussion of the procedure and some before and
after photographs. The patient photographs shown are with their
gracious consent given in order to help others in their choices.
SELECTION OF A SURGEON
A surgeon should be selected on the basis of competence and mutual trust
and respect. Sophisticated people realize that the competence of a
surgeon is not measured by an occasional good result or slick or
misleading advertising. A surgeon’s ability is based on a combination of
training, experience and God given skill with his hands. Most good
surgeons will belong to a professional organization, which sets high
standards and qualifications for membership, such as the American
Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. It goes without
saying that your surgeon should be board certified.
Finally, although money is a consideration, the cheapest price may not
necessarily be the best bargain. Do not forget you plan to live with the
result the rest of your life. If you compare the cost over the years of
improving one’s appearance through makeup, hair care and jewelry, you
may find cosmetic surgery a better bargain.
